Summer is a great time to get outdoors and enjoy the sunshine with family and friends. On National Family Fun Month, we want to share with you some fun ideas on what you can do with your family. Today we are going to focus on family picnics.
There are many inexpensive and fun way to get your family together to enjoy the great outdoors! Here are some fun ideas/activities for your family’s next outing.
Backyard Camping Trip
Camping doesn’t necessarily mean you have to travel to the woods – you can camp right in your backyard! Pitch a tent, grab all the stuffed animals, some fun books, and a few snacks, set up that tent and enjoy your backyard camping experience.
While you’re enjoying your backyard camping experience, grab a tablet or projector and stream your favorite movie. Make some popcorn, order some pizza, and wrap yourselves up in some blankets to create a night of memories.
Break Out The Board Games!
Who doesn’t love a good board game? Grab some family favorite games, break up into teams (parents against kids is always fun!), lay out some blankets or use a picnic table, and enjoy!
Don’t have room to pack some board games? Pack some playing cards or UNO.
Want something a bit more creative? Create your own board game! Break up into teams and identify as many animals and plants that you can in an allotted amount of time. The team with the most items on their list wins!
Nature Walks and Trail Hikes
There is always so much to see and do while adventuring through the great outdoors. Have some fun and take the family to local trails. Pack a lunch for a picnic and plenty of water for your family adventure, grab a map of the trail and scope out any birds, rocks, or bodies of water you may see during your walk. If the park has a visitor center, ask them questions to see what types of animals live in the wild and how to spot them.
No matter what your family decide to do over the next few weeks of summer, be sure that you are safe, are aware of your surroundings, and have a first aid kit handy for any scraped knees!
