Did you know that the City of Hope uses more blood and platelets than any other major medical center in Southern California?
Because of the seriousness of the patients’ cases at the hospital, City of Hope gives more than 3,000 blood transfusions every month! That’s why it is critical for the hospital to get as many blood and platelet donations as they possibly can. To make up the difference when they do not get enough donations, they have to buy blood from organizations like the Red Cross to make sure all of their patients are treated to the fullest!
While it is a worthy cause to donate blood to third party organizations, if you know of a hospital that has their own blood donor center, like City of Hope, you can help keep their costs down by donating directly to them!
Donating blood and/or platelets usually takes no more than an hour, and for your health, can only be donated every eight weeks! The City of Hope also has criteria that they use for donor eligibility:
- Be at least 16 years of age and weigh at least 120 pounds with a City of Hope parental consent form.
- Be at least 17 years of age and weigh at least 110 pounds with no consent required.
- Must be in good general health
- There is NO age limit for donors!
