I’m sure you are all wondering, “What in the world is green insurance?”  Lucky for you, you’re reading this blog and are about to find out!  Green Insurance policies protect the owners of green commercial or residential buildings.  Should you encounter any loss, reconstruction to the building will be up to its original LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification level making sure that the building’s systems perform at the energy efficient levels that they were previously.


A new aspect to Green Insurance is that you can cover your current “non-green” building or house for roughly $70 per year for every $1 million insured.  That is of course depending on the policy and what exactly you are insuring.  This means that if you experience a total loss with your building or house, it will be rebuilt to LEED Silver Certification Standards.  For those that want to go green, but do not want to move out of their current house; this gives them not only the protection needed to insure their home, but gives them the guarantee that their rebuilt home will be green.
