Do you own an online business? If you do chances are you have heard that Zappos, a major shoe company, has recently had 24 million of their customers passwords hacked. If your business uses the Internet as a service/shopping platform, then California Business Liability Insurance isn’t going to be enough; you will also need Cyber liability insurance. If you own a small business you may think you are clear and flying under the radar, however you are still at risk for cybercrime. Computer hackers can still obtain illegal and unauthorized access to your customer accounts.
Although with the Zappos hack, it has been stated that only the last four digits of member’s credit cards were obtained, it is still a business’s obligation to protect the data and financial information of its customers. Even though the last four numbers are insignificant, the incident still shines a light on the bigger picture. Consider the 2011 Sony hack where 70 million Sony PlayStation users had their credit card numbers stolen. Only 12 million of those stolen cards were encrypted. This is not the only example of companies that have been hacked and jacked! See securityweek.com for more examples.
Hacking and cybercrime are becoming more prevalent and happening more and more as we use multi-media outlets for business. It important to keep your business safe, so make sure that you have the protection of a Cyber Liability policy.
